Most Oklahoma City metro area activities and events related to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday will be virtual this year.
The OKC Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Coalition will once again host a series of activities designed to honor King's legacy and all of the events will be virtual.
The 2021 theme for the holiday activities is "Remember, Celebrate, and Act."
Virtual activities will begin at 9 a.m. Monday on the coalition's Facebook page and website.
Virtual events include a job fair, opening program at the Freedom Center, silent march, bell ringing ceremony, Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Program, and the Martin Luther King Holiday Parade.
St. John Missionary Baptist Church will host a virtual seminar at 6 p.m. Jan. 29 titled "Employment Trends: How to Secure a Better Job."
Organizers said the seminar is designed to offer information for people who lost their jobs due to the COVID-19, as well as those whose industries have been changed or decimated because of the pandemic.
The seminar will be taught by Daryl Green, an Oklahoma Baptist University professor.
Debra Johnson, a church spokeswoman, said St. John will conduct quarterly seminars to address the need for jobs in the community. She said the seminars will provide employment resources and job-related information.
