Leaders of the Directors Guild of America (DGA) sent a letter to Georgia Governor Brian Kemp (R), urging him to withdraw his support for the state’s new election integrity legislation, which they refer to as a “voter suppression law.”
“We write to condemn the voter suppression law Senate Bill 202, which threatens to undermine the pillar of our democracy the right to vote,” reads the letter, obtained by Deadline, written by DGA president Thomas Schlamme and national executive director Russell Hollander. “President Biden has referred to the law both as an ‘atrocity’ and as a modern-day version of Jim Crow.”
Georgia Governor Is More Popular after Signing Controversial Election Law

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp s approval rating has risen among Republican voters in the state after signing a controversial new voting law that restricts the use of absentee ballots.
A new Morning Consult poll found that Kemp s popularity among local GOP voters rose 12 points from 62 percent on March 25, the date the Georgia governor signed the bill, to 74 percent on April 6.
His approval rating among all voters in the state has also risen from 52 percent before he signed the Georgia election law to 55 percent after the bill was green lit.

As Hollywood continues to roll out its condemnations of Georgia s new election law, the Directors Guild of America has unleashed one of the strongest critiques yet.
The guild s president Thomas Schlamme and its national executive director Russell Hollander sent a letter directly to Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, writing that the bill threatens to undermine the pillar of our democracy. They went on to denounce the bill for reviving discredited practices intended to suppress the voice of Black people and other people of color that were so common in the days before the landmark Voting Rights Act.

Effective tomorrow (04/08) there will be less restriction under a new Executive Order signed by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp on March 31. Executive Order03.31.21.03 will roll back many of the current COVID-19 restrictions in place.
According to a press release the new order will:
▪ Will become effective April 8 through April 30, 2021
▪ Eliminates the Gatherings ban
▪ Eliminates Shelter-in-Place requirements
▪ Removes the critical infrastructure distinction and collapses all organization suggested measures into one main list, with a small number of additional industry-specific requirements remaining
