Parada Named Midseason Golden Spikes Candidate

THE FLATS – No. 20 Georgia Tech baseball’s true freshman catcher Kevin Parada (Pasadena, Calif./Loyola) has been lauded for the first half of his inaugural season, garnering midseason watch list honors for the Golden Spikes Award, it was announced Wednesday. The midseason watch list features 45 of the nation’s top amateur players from high school and college, with Parada being one of the seven representatives from the Atlantic Coast Conference. Parada is one of just four true college freshmen to make the list. Parada has made a name for himself as one of the top freshman period in the nation earning multiple midseason freshman of the year honors by ranking fifth in the ACC with a .368 batting average. He also ranks second in doubles (10), fourth in hits (42), sixth in triples (two) and ninth in slugging (.623).

Tech Tops Lipscomb in First Round of NCAA Tournament

OMAHA, Neb. – Led by a career-high 31 kills by sophomore Julia Bergmann, No. 23-ranked Georgia Tech volleyball won its first NCAA Tournament match in nearly 17 years, a 3-1 (25-21, 16-25, 25-21, 25-19) triumph over Lipscomb in the opening round of the 2020-21 NCAA Volleyball Championship on Wednesday evening at the CHI Health Center. With the victory, Georgia Tech (14-4) advances to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2004, where it will face third-seeded Minnesota on Thursday evening at the CHI Health Center. The match is set for 7 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on ESPN3.

On Tuesday night they dropped their game against SEC-rival Auburn. The final score was 7-3. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets, ranked 20th at the time, fall to 15-13 on the season. The Tigers haven’t had a great season they are now three game shy of .500 with a record of 13-16. Starting tomorrow and running through the weekend, the Yellow Jackets will be back in action. They’ll be hosting the Virginia Tech Hokies. The games will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

No 20 Georgia Tech to Battle Auburn in Primetime Matchup

GAMEDAY CENTRAL TOP STORYLINES • No. 20 Georgia Tech returns home for a brief reprieve, hosting SEC foe Auburn on Tuesday at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium. • Auburn is Georgia Tech’s second-most played opponent in program history and the Jackets’ oldest opponent. Tech and Auburn first squared off on April 10, 1897. • The Jackets stopped the skid on Sunday when they won 4-2 over Notre Dame and will look to continue in the midweek before a pivotal ACC series against Virginia Tech. • After a cold series offensively, Tech moves to No. 2 in the ACC, hitting .294 as a team. • Georgia Tech also finds itself among the ACC’s best in doubles (second), hits (second), on-base percentage (second), slugging percentage (second) and triples (second).

Bergmann, Brambilla, McKissock Named AVCA East Coast All-Region

Julia Bergmann, Matti McKissock each garnered AVCA All-Region honors for the East Coast region, the AVCA announced on Tuesday. Bergmann and Brambilla were both selected to the AVCA East Coast All-Region Team, while McKissock was tabbed an AVCA East Coast All-Region Honorable Mention. The same trio also recently received All-ACC honors as Bergmann and Brambilla were both unanimously named All-ACC First Team, and McKissock earned a spot on the All-ACC Second Team. Bergmann lands on the AVCA East Coast All-Region Team for the second consecutive year after receiving the same honor as well as AVCA Region Freshman of the Year a season ago. The Munich, Germany native is currently second on the team with 227 kills as well as 162 digs and leads the team with 30 aces on the year. Amongst the nation, the outside hitter is currently 18
