A magistrate has taken mercy on a desperate young mother of two who stole sheets and pillows from a local Spotlight store to pay her mounting bills.
First offender Kiera Louise Morris, 23, was given permission to bottlefeed her youngest child in court as her case at Gympie Magistrates Court was heard.
Ms Morrie - who describes herself as a bookworm - pleaded guilty to stealing more than $150-worth of manchester from Spotlight at Kawana Waters.
But magistrate Chris Callaghan let the young mother walk free from court with no conviction recorded on a nine month, $600 good behaviour bond.

Subscriber only A 47-year-old Gympie man suffering from a brain disorder could be heard threatening and hurling abuse at a Gympie Regional Council ranger outside a coffee shop in Mary St. Brent Aaron Wickham pleaded guilty in Gympie Magistrates Court on Monday to charges of public nuisance and for threatening to kill a council ranger, after he reacted viciously when approached by two rangers in March 2021. Police prosecutor Barry Stevens said Wickham acted aggressively towards the rangers, on March 3 and March 11. Wickham was approached by two council rangers the first time, after he was seen holding a dog between his legs while sitting at a table outside a coffee shop in Mary St, raising suspicions the dog was unleashed in public.

Subscriber only A truck driver involved in a crash on the Bruce Highway near Gympie blew more than three times the limit when tested at the scene, Gympie Magistrates Court heard on Thursday. Anthony John Towells, 53, had a blood alcohol content of 0.175 when he was breath tested by police on April 30, 2021. The court heard Towells, who was driving a heavy vehicle to pick up a piece of machinery for his job, became involved in the crash with a rental removal truck after its driver tried to overtake his vehicle.

In a late night attempt to escape from the police, a 27-year-old repeat offender sped through the McDonaldâs drive-through in Gympie, narrowly missing police officers and mounting a fence along the Bruce Highway.
Wade Stanley Knox, 27, pleaded guilty to the dangerous operation of a vehicle at McDonaldâs on February 28,2021, as well as 14 other charges in Gympie Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Some of the other charges Knox pleaded guilty to included two of possessing dangerous drugs, four counts of unlicensed driving, three stealing offences and failing to dispose of a needle.
It was at 10:20pm that night when Knox was approached by police on foot at the Gympie McDonaldâs drive-through.
