New venture capital funds in Egypt to receive $120million from GIZ

Share this article It’s a good time to be raising money for venture capital investment in Egypt, especially if it is a first-time fund. GIZ Egypt has launched a €100 million ($120 million) funding programme called “VC University”.  The initiative is a collaboration between GIZ, Germany’s international development agency, and the Egyptian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA), Endure Capital and Changelabs. GIZ has been working in Egypt since 1956. Through their Cairo office, GIZ works on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) to implement projects on behalf of other German ministries, the European Union and international organisations.

Hue to pilot public bike-sharing scheme An innovative public bike-sharing scheme has been launched by Hue City, the International Cooperation Agency of Germany (GIZ) and tech firm Vietsoftpro to develop a bicycle transportation plan for 2021-2026 that mobilises private investment for bike-sharing. GIZ said the memorandum of understanding (MoU), which was signed during ‘Moving to Digitalisation’ week in the city in late April, promised a public-private partnership (PPP) between Hue and the GIZ to support public bike-sharing. The partnership model is supported by the DeveloPPP fund, a financing mechanism of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and managed and implemented by the GIZ under the umbrella of the ‘Support to Vietnam for the Implementation of the Paris Agreement (SIPA)’ project.
