For most of the world’s population, mobile is the primary way to access the internet. Although access to mobile internet is driving digital inclusion, there is still a ‘usage gap’ with over 3.4 billion people living in areas covered by mobile broadband networks but who are not using mobile internet services. As a result, they are missing out from access to information, services and life-enhancing opportunities, such as health information and guidance, financial services and employment opportunities.

A pilot project on establishing a plastic alliance of Vietnamese supermarkets and shepherding the retail industry towards the more sustainable production and consumption of plastics was launched on March 31 by the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment, along with the Department of Industry and Trade of Hanoi.

The Plastic Alliance is one of four initiatives under the Rethinking Plastics â Circular Economy Solutions to Marine Litter Project running in Vietnam until 2022, co-funded by the European Union and the German government.

Washington: The World Bank approved today Additional Financing of $10 million for the Tajikistan Rural Electrification Project, which aims to: 1) provide electricity access for residents in remote, mountainous areas of southern Tajikistan; and 2) support efforts to export electricity to neighboring communities in North-Eastern Afghanistan. The financing is provided as a grant from the International Development Association (IDA).

Co-operative Bank has secured $10 million financing from the eco.business Fund, the impact investment sub-fund for sub-Saharan Africa, for on-lending to sustainable agribusinesses.
The fund’s first ever investment in Kenya provides the much-needed financing for businesses to enhance sustainable measures in their agricultural practices, particularly important in light of the challenging operating environment created by the Covid-19 crisis.
