Tandem Photovoltaics Enables New Heights in Solar Cell Efficiencies - Sonnenseite - Ökologische Kommunikation mit Franz Alt

© Fraunhofer ISE – Michael Schachtner | The rainbow colors show the diffraction of sunlight by a mirror with a nanostructured grating, which was applied to the back of the silicon subcell. The sun’s spectrum is thus captured even better in the silicon bottom cell. 25.04.2021 Tandem Photovoltaics Enables New Heights in Solar Cell Efficiencies The new monolithic triple-junction solar cell – or more specifically, a III-V//Si tandem solar cell – converts 35.9 % of sunlight into electrical energy. Fraunhofer ISE has been conducting cutting-edge research in photovoltaics for forty years. Continually the institute has brought forth record cell efficiencies in different material classes and made important contributions in reducing the costs of solar electricity, which is the cheapest form of energy generation today. Photovoltaics, along with wind energy, is the central pillar of the energy transition. Aiming to further reduce the area required for PV

Aerospace tech to turn tidal turbine foils - reNews - Renewable Energy News

UK-based Sustainable Marine is adopting cutting-edge aerospace and wind energy technology in a new project to drive the evolution of tidal turbine foils. The marine renewables specialist is leading the EvoFoil project in partnership with German organisations M&D Composites Technology and Leibniz Universität Hannover Institute of Production Engineering and Machine Tools. The EvoFoil project aims to deliver a series of design innovations to optimise the performance of tidal turbine foils while driving down production and operation costs. Sustainable Marine is receiving advisory services and up to $578,000 (€480,000) in research and development funding from  the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) for the two-year project.

Rusal completes acquisition of aluminum alloy producer from Germany

Rusal completes acquisition of aluminum alloy producer from Germany MOSCOW. April 16 (Interfax) - Rusal has closed a deal to purchase assets of Germany s Aluminium Rheinfelden Group following approval by the German Federal Cartel Office and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, Rusal said in a press release. The acquisition reinforces Rusal s position as the supplier of choice to its international network of automotive customers and is expected to deliver strong commercial synergies by matching Aluminium Rheinfelden s high end, niche product focus with Rusal s global scale low-carbon aluminum alloy production, the press release said. Rusal plans to develop Aluminium Rheinfelden s assets and to deliver a new generation of sustainable aluminium solutions that can be produced at scale, while Aluminium Rheinfelden will continue to operate under its well-known brands, it said.
