A group of maritime industry and technology experts in Germany is working on a project to unlock remote control capabilities for safer and more efficient harbor tug operations.
Backed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), the project is being led by Voith in partnership with the Hamburg University of Technology, the Fraunhofer Center for Maritime Logistics and Services, the Federal Office for Hydraulic Engineering, winch and crane manufacturer McGregor, the Marine Training Center (MTC) Hamburg and communication specialists from MediaMobil.
Voith said it will present the FernSAMS technology as part of a live-streamed maneuver simulation at the 12th National Maritime Conference taking place in Rostock on May 10-11. The German acronym FernSAMS (Ferngesteuerte Schlepper bei An- und Ablegemanövern großer Schiffe) refers to the remote-controlled tugs used during mooring and casting-off maneuvers of large ships.

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy is providing 12 million Euros as part of the Maritime Research Program for the development of a novel autonomous submersible robotics system that will enable autonomous monitoring of underwater installations in the deep sea.

The position of Regional Coordinator is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. As such fluency in German is essential.
The Regional Coordinator has two main tasks, namely: to manage the office representatives in Durban, Cape Town, Maputo and Lusaka; and the responsibility of ensuring sufficient networks, presence and market knowledge within the region to fulfil the German Chamber’s overall mandate.
The Regional Coordinator works closely with the Office managers and the industry-specific Competence Centres of the Chamber to develop and implement the Chamber’s regional approach and corresponding activities.

And now the German government is funding a Berlin-based food startup, Becanex GmbH, to the tune of 505,000 euros ($601,720) to create cannabinoid-containing emulsions for industrial food production, reports High Times.
What makes the investment so important, reports High Times, is that the funding entity, the Central Innovation Programme for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, is under the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, which is “about as central to German economic investment in the future as you can get.”
