Green Building Alliance joins United Nations in $24 million International Climate Initiative
Green Building Alliance (GBA) was the first organization in the country to focus on green building, starting 28 years ago. Today, they are considered the vanguard of a movement that has taken off worldwide.
Now, GBA has announced they are collaborating with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) on a $24 million project to improve the energy efficiency and carbon footprint of the global building supply chain. The mission is to help create healthier, more sustainable buildings.
The International Climate Initiative (IKI) award further positions GBA not just as an anchor of Pittsburgh’s green economy, but as a recognized force for change in the world.

Project partners GASCADE, Gasunie, RWE and Shell have signed a declaration of intent to further intensify their collaboration on the AquaDuctus project.
The AquaDuctus pipeline will transport green hydrogen from the North Sea directly to the continent. It is part of the AquaVentus initiative, which plans to install 10 GW of electrolysis capacity for green hydrogen production from offshore wind power between Heligoland, Germany, and the Dogger sand bank, 100 km off the east coast of England. In the dovetailed sub-projects, demand, generation, and transport of hydrogen are to be synchronised in order to enable a swift market ramp-up.
The pipeline is the vision for the first German offshore hydrogen pipeline. Once the construction of the generation plants is fully completed, AquaDuctus would transport up to 1 million tpy of green hydrogen from 2035 onwards, thus making a substantial contribution towards the decarbonisation of energy supply in Germany and Europe. The vaccine component of the project will be financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
BMZ supports private sector initiatives that “mitigate the economic as well as the health-related impact of the corona pandemic” of countries like the Philippines
BMZ disclosed that projects related to the Covid 19 vaccine cold chain requirements will receive up to €2,000,000 ($2,430,710) of funding. This has a government cost counterpart of 50 percent.
