IOM: COVID-19 Leads to 73% Drop in Migration from Horn of Africa to Gulf Countries Format Despite security risks, the number of migrants travelling from the Horn of Africa to Saudi Arabia through Yemen had been on the increase over the past four years. © IOM Addis Ababa– New data published by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) this week confirms a nearly three-fourths decline in migration from the East and Horn of Africa regions towards Gulf Council Countries during 2020. At the Second Scientific Conference on Migration and Displacement conference IOM organized herewith the eight-nation Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ), a new study noted that COVID-19 led to a 73 per cent drop in migrants from the Horn of Africa travelling to the Gulf countries through Yemen.
