Northallerton Matron s pandemic painting at the Friarage Hospital

A PAINTING to mark the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic and the winter months ahead has been unveiled at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton. Created by matron and artist Vicki Davidson it s designed to complement her first painting, ‘Sending Hope’on display in The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. The first painting captured the community spirt during the first wave of the pandemic, this new piece,‘Sending Love’, symbolises the challenges families have faced during the second wave. It depicts a young boy on a toy car in front of bare trees with hanging love hearts and a brightly coloured rainbow. It s being displayed in the Friarage hub next to The Tree of Life.

Rae died on December 1, after being diagnosed with COVID-19. Edward was able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine on December 8. My mother had her first stroke in 2010 and made an almost full recovery. But over the years that followed, she had four more strokes, so it s been pretty tough. During the past couple of years her speech center was affected she was an avid reader and talker and it really limited her in terms of communication. After her last stroke she acquired receptive aphasia which is when words that are heard are misinterpreted by the brain it became challenging at times to communicate with her.

Rae Whitehead, 79, died on Dec. 1, just days after testing positive for COVID-19 at her nursing home, according to The Guardian. One week later, as the U.K. s National Health Service (NHS) began administering vaccines, Edward received his shot at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. “My father and I are deeply saddened that, had we not put my mother in a nursing home … she would maybe be alive today and could have had the vaccine,” their son, Dr. David Whitehead, told PA news agency, according to the outlet.
