Two young women in Va. make history by becoming Eagle Scouts

WAYNESBORO, Va. (AP) The Boy Scouts of America was forever changed back in February 2019 when girls were allowed to join for the first time in the program’s history.
Additionally, girls were officially allowed to join Eagle Scouts for the first time, as well. Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America.
Just one month later, Troop 142 was born.
The all-girl troop features eight scouts, but two in particular have caught the attention of the community. Eighteen-year-old Emmeline Soyars of Waynesboro and 17-year-old Lindsey Reno of Fishersville are the first two female Eagle Scouts in the Valley’s District of Scouts.

The Blue Angels, the U.S. Navyâs flight demonstration squadron, are celebrating their 75th anniversary season in 2021. The team was formed in 1946 and is the second oldest formal flying aerobatic team under the same name in the world.
The teamâs six demonstration pilots currently man the F/A-18 E/F Super Hornets. It marks the first ânewâ aircraft added to the Blue Angels flight demonstration team since they adopted the legacy F/A-18C/Ds in 1986.
A total of 17 officers voluntarily serve with the Blue Angels. Each year, the team typically selects three tactical (fighter or fighter/attack) jet pilots, two support officers and one Marine Corps C-130 pilot to relieve departing members.

This past year has been a mixed bag of hybrid and online learning, but many college campuses in Virginia are completely reopening in the fall. Students had different reactions to online learning, but many are excited to transition back to in-person instruction.
