NDSU Extension, FSA to Host Quality Loss Adjustment Program Webinar Ron Haugen DEVILS LAKE - Producers who intend to apply for assistance through the Quality Loss Adjustment (QLA) Program will have an opportunity to learn about the program during a webinar that North Dakota State University Extension and the Farm Service Agency (FSA) are hosting on Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 11 a.m. Central time. On Jan. 6, the FSA started accepting applications for QLA, which provides assistance to producers who suffered eligible crop quality losses due to natural disasters occurring in 2018 and 2019. The deadline to apply for QLA is Friday, March 5, 2021. “Natural disasters in 2018 and 2019 caused many ag producers to experience crop quality losses,” says Brian Haugen, acting state executive director for the North Dakota FSA. “Many of the eligible producers have already received compensation for quantity losses, and this program has been designed to provide quality loss disaster assistance as

Producers Should Make ARC-PLC Election Decisions by March 15

  Producers can elect coverage and enroll in crop-by-crop Agricultural Risk Coverage-County (ARC-Co) or Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs within each Farm Service Agency (FSA) farm unit, or ARC-Individual for the entire farm, for the 2021 crop year, says Ron Haugen, North Dakota State University Extension farm management specialist. Although election changes for 2021 are optional, enrollment by signed contract is required for each year of the program. This is an annual decision that producers need to make, Haugen says. If an election is not submitted by the deadline of March 15, the election defaults to the current election for crops on the farm from the prior crop year.

  Agricultural producers have until March 1 to file their 2020 income tax returns without penalty if they have not made estimates. “Producers have until April 15 to file without penalty if they have paid their estimated tax by Jan. 15,” says Ron Haugen, North Dakota State University Extension farm economist. “It is important to note changes in tax regulations due to the CARES Act and other legislation due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” he adds. Items to note for 2020 income tax preparation: Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) payments are agricultural program payments that you must include in gross income. Report the full amount of your CFAP payments on Schedule F (Form 1040).
