Ethekwini blames lockdown for lack of disciplinary action against errant senior managers

Durban - ETHEKWINI metro has blamed Covid-19 lockdown for its conspicuously slow pace in finalising internal disciplinary processes against senior managers charged with criminal cases in connection with multimillion-rand tender fraud and corruption.
Two high-ranking officials, city manager Sipho Nzuza and deputy head for supply chain management (SCM) Sandile Ngcobo, have appeared in the Durban Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, respectively charged with fraud, corruption and money laundering.
The much-publicised arrests happened early this year, but no disciplinary processes had been finalised against them, even though national government regulations require municipalities to finalise an independent investigation against senior officials facing criminal cases of misconduct.
