As law enforcementâs disparate use force against Black people continues to stoke division in a troubled nation, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals plans to review the high-profile murder conviction of former North Texas police officer Roy Oliver, who fatally shot an unarmed Black teenager.
In 2018, Oliver, who is white, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the 2017 Balch Springs police shooting death of Jordan Edwards, a 15-year-old passenger in a car moving away from officers. The juryâs decision was a landmark ruling, as police officers are rarely indicted â and almost never convicted of murder â in on-duty shootings.
Huber is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
His resignation comes weeks after an alleged incident in Dallas involving Huber and the driver of a rideshare company.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, the incident happened at about 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 12, 2020.
A rideshare driver told police he picked up Huber at the Bottled Blonde bar in Dallas.
As the two were en route to Huber’s destination, Huber allegedly asked the driver where he was from and began speaking Arabic, according to the document.

Duncanville Police Department Announce Arrest of Christian Pinilla

Duncanville, TX (January 5, 2021) – In mid-December 2020, serious allegations of police misconduct by a Duncanville Police Officer was brought to the attention of Duncanville Police Administration by other members of its own police department. The police officer in question was immediately placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation into the allegations, which involved alleged misconduct while on duty.
Due to the nature of the allegations and to promote transparency, Duncanville Police Administration requested the Dallas Sheriff’s Department conduct a criminal investigation for any potential criminal activity. The Dallas Sheriff’s Department agreed to investigate this matter, and today two-year Duncanville Police Officer, Christian Pinilla, was arrested on three counts of Official Oppression, a Class A misdemeanor of Texas Penal Code, Section 39.03.
It started routinely enough, according to videos obtained by NBC 5 through the Texas open records law. Hey, how you doing? Do you have a driver s license and insurance with you? the officer asked as he approached the driver’s window.
“No sir, Bonham responded.
He continued to cooperate and gave the officer his name and date of birth.
Then, the officer requested that he get out of the pickup. Do me a favor. Hop out for me real quick,” Winn said.
Bonham unbuckled his seatbelt and opened the door but then stopped.
“May I ask why?” Bonham asked.
Bonham later explained he felt scared.
