Material Girls: Why Reality Matters for Feminism by Kathleen Stock review Stella O Malley
For anyone who has been trying to figure out what on earth is going on with gender and sexuality these days, this is the book for you. Although the author, Kathleen Stock OBE, was a little known professor of philosopher at the University of Sussex when she first put her head above the parapet, she is now considered a leading voice for gender critical feminists.
It feels surprising that the concept of what it is to be a woman is a hot-button topic in the first quarter of the twenty-first century, but this has gripped public consciousness and, in this context, Stock’s clearsighted analysis of how gender identity theory negatively impacts women and girls feels radical – and even slightly dangerous.

Treatment for children with gender ambiguity shouldn t be hyjacked by activists 18/12/2020|11min
Writer and founding Editor of Quillette Claire Lehmann says it is not transphobic to question the possible long-term physical damage of the “insufficiently tested medical treatment ”given to some young people who are struggling with their gender identity.
“I think there’s a perception that trans kids today are something like gay kids were a generation ago, and we all know that gay kids suffered and struggled to come out of the closet,” Ms Lehmann said.
Ms Lehmann said the problem she had with such comparison was children with gender ambiguity were being encouraged by activists to take puberty blockers which were not yet proven safe treatments to take.
