The Anaheim City Council showed unanimous support this week to build a controversial veterans cemetery in Anaheim Hills after years of contentious debate and political inaction.
For about a decade, veterans fought to have the cemetery constructed in Irvine, but local politicians couldn’t agree on where it should be placed.
The proposal to build the cemetery in the Gypsum Canyon area on county land in Anaheim Hills has gathered support from a host of politicians, including Orange County supervisors Don Wagner, Katrina Foley and Andrew Do; Dist. Atty. Todd Spitzer and Rep. Lou Correa, among other supporters.

SANTA ANA (CNS) - An Orange County Superior Court judge today granted a motion by prosecutors to dismiss charges related to two alleged rape victims in the case against a Newport Beach hand surgeon and his girlfriend, who are accused in drugging and sexually assaulting several women.
Prosecutors from the Attorney General s Office have said previously they wanted to chip down charges to one alleged victim in the case against Dr. Grant Robicheaux, 40, and Cerissa Laura Riley, 34. Robicheaux was charged initially with seven alleged victims and Riley with five.
The Attorney General s Office took over prosecution of the case last year when another Orange County Superior Court judge removed Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer s office from the case.
