Dr. Ben Locwin, who lives on the Seacoast and is an international COVID-19 adviser, said people need to follow the science. “Science works whether or not you believe in it,” said Locwin. “Wearing masks and doing all the other stuff you have been told during this pandemic is what not only helps to prevent the spread, but also prevents the need for things like lockdowns. It is what will help get our schools back open for our kids.”

Two skaters rescued after falling through ice in Canaan Modified: 12/31/2020 8:14:29 PM CANAAN Two ice skaters who fell through thin ice Wednesday morning on Canaan Street Lake were rescued after more than 25 minutes in the frigid water, according to the Canaan fire chief. The two women, both Canaan residents, were more than 150 yards off-shore and were fortunate that Canaan police officer Matthew Bunten had just arrived at the lake to check the lock on the Canaan Street beach house and also make sure no one was venturing onto unstable ice, Fire Chief Bill Bellion said. “These people were incredibly lucky,” Bellion said. “He saw two people probably 150 to 200 yards offshore. He looked away, looked back, and they were gone, and he knew that they were in the water.”
