Tarleton, FWISD ink historic, multimillion-dollar pact TSU Newsroom STEPHENVILLE  One of the fastest-growing regional universities in the country and the state’s sixth largest independent school district cemented an agreement Tuesday evening as a prototype to boost post-secondary education nationwide. Beginning with the 2021-22 school year, Tarleton State University will provide annual scholarships and guarantee admission to Fort Worth ISD seniors who graduate in the top 25% of their class. The icing on the cake is that Tarleton will select one FWISD graduating senior each year to receive a $10,000 annual scholarship, renewable for up to 4 years. The award will result in an annual commitment of $40,000 to the school district.

The Dick Smith Library, Student Health and Counseling Center, Tarleton Alumni Association Office and the university’s Welcome Center also will close, as will Tarleton’s W.K. Gordon Center for Industrial History of Texas in Thurber and the Dora Lee Langdon Cultural & Educational Center in Granbury. Three Tarleton areas will be open Monday: Recreational Sports Center, 6 a.m.-8 p.m.; dining hall, 7 a.m.-8 p.m.; and campus bookstore in the Student Center, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Entrepreneurial spirit and a love of the Cayman Islands are just two of the common bonds between Krycel and J.D. Perkins. Together, the couple has opened gyms and corporate wellness programs as well as restaurants focused on healthy foods and beverages. Their latest is Fit Juice Bar, which opened in Dallas last October. J.D. grew up in Dallas and attended Skyline High School before a family move to Grand Prairie. Athletic scholarships took him to Tyler Junior College and Tarleton State University in Stephenville, then on to Lamar University in Beaumont, where he majored in exercise physiology and nutrition.

DPD To Implement Program Promoting Peer Intervention, Officer Health

Next month, the Dallas Police Department will become one of the first Texas cities to go through the Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement (ABLE) program, which aims to improve police culture by teaching officers how to prevent harm and misconduct by their coworkers. The program is a nationally coordinated initiative from the Georgetown Innovative Policing Program that s also intended to promote officer health and wellness. The city entered into an agreement between the University of North Texas at Dallas and DPD to implement the program. The program was developed in part by Ervin Staub, a psychology professor who created active bystander training for the Los Angeles Police Department after some of its officers were captured on camera brutally beating Black motorist Rodney King in 1991. The Western Athletic Conference officially announced the addition of Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston State, Lamar University and Abilene Christian University to the league. The move will take SFA away from the Southland Conference, ending a membership of 33 years. The change of membership for the “Texas 4″ will take place on July 1 of this summer. That is a year earlier than what was first reported back in December when SFA president Scott Gordon entered negotiations with the WAC for a conference-change taking place in July 2022.
