The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) urged people on Thursday to get covid19 vaccinations only through their country s national immunisation programme.
In a press release, PAHO warned that getting vaccinated outside legal programmes could be dangerous to your health.
The recommendation comes in response to reports of counterfeit or unauthorised vaccines in some Latin American countries, such as Bolivia, Colombia, and Mexico.
In March, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a global alert about counterfeit Pfizer/BioNtech vaccines in Mexico.

Last week was the worst of weeks and the best of weeks. The messy vaccine rollout necessitated my bundling my 99-year-old mother into the car and striking out in search of a designated health centre in the hope of finding one without waiting lines and prepared to register us.
At Diego Martin, my good luck was in top gear. Having no wheelchair, I hoped to find a parking spot pretty close to the entrance. Miraculously, as if waiting for us, was a spot exactly in front of the gateway to an amazingly new and shiny building that houses the medical services for the area.

THERE were no unmanageable crowds or queues for registration for covid19 vaccines at the Diego Martin Health Centre on Wendy Fitzwilliam Boulevard, Diamond Vale, on Tuesday.
Three health workers sat outside the building, registering people as they walked in slowly throughout the day.
A worker who spoke briefly with Newsday said that was in contrast to the previous evening, when dozens or more people, young and old, began arriving at the centre from the early afternoon.
