File Photo by John Angelillo/UPI | License Photo Feb. 3 (UPI) Hopes that the United States may be approaching herd immunity against COVID-19 may be dashed by the emergence of new variants of the virus, though expanding infection-control measures could solve that problem, experts said Wednesday. With 26.4 million confirmed cases, and up to 10 times as many actually infected, the 32.8 million people vaccinated against the virus nationally through Tuesday could mean the country is close to herd immunity, according to immunologist David C. Montefiori.
