A boy visiting the Tahoe area was rescued after being buried in snow that slid off a roof.
On Wednesday, a 14-year-old boy was playing in a snow cave near a home in Serene Lakes, a community just west of Truckee. According to KCRA, the family was visiting from Folsom. As he was playing, a sheet of snow that accumulated on the home s roof slid on top of him, burying the boy.

Firefighters saved a 14-year-old’s life after he found himself trapped beneath several feet of snow in Truckee, California, on Wednesday.
“The boy had been playing inside of a snow cave just outside of his home, located in the Serene Lakes area, when an accumulation of snowfall fell from the roof and buried him,” KTVU reported.
Family members waited for him to return home, but when he failed to do so, they called 911.
“The experienced first arriving firefighter/paramedics from Truckee Fire immediately suspected a roof avalanche and began probing the debris at the bottom of the roof,” the department said in a notification post.

First responders in the Lake Tahoe area rescued a 14-year-old who was buried under about 5 feet of snow that slid off a roof Wednesday night.
The teen was playing in a snow cave next to his home in the Serene Lakes area west of Truckee when snow atop the roof came crashing down and completely buried him, the Truckee Fire Protection District said. No one saw what happened.
After a few hours and not seeing the teen return, family members went to look for him but couldn t find him, prompting them to call 911, fire officials said.

TRUCKEE, Calif. With the massive winter storm still pummeling Northern California with rain and snow, it is important to be aware of winter hazards, as even a small snowfall can turn into a scary situation.
This is the warning that Truckee Fire Protection District is spreading to the local community after a roof avalanche buried a 14-year-old under five feet of snow for hours before he was rescued.

The Truckee Fire Protection District, in conjunction with Tahoe Donner, held an emergency response preparation presentation on Tuesday, offering advice to the community on a wide range of topics regarding what to do during a crisis.
Truckee Fire Protection District Community Emergency Response Team member Rich Mackler led the presentation, which stressed timeliness during an emergency.
“If we have an emergency or an event where we need to exit or evacuate, that’s not the time to be having a discussion with your spouse about where you stored the important papers,” said Mackler. “It’s time to pick up your bag that you’ve already pre-packed and go.”
