A major supermarket for Eston could be a âcatalystâ, helping other businesses thrive, councillors have been told as a warning over the scorched earth plan was sounded.
Redcar and Cleveland Council is proposing works which would see the townâs 50 year-old shopping precinct replaced by a new supermarket.

More than half of England is now in the strictest form of local lockdown after London and parts of Essex and Hertfordshire joined swathes of the north in Tier 3.
In total 10.8million extra people have gone into Tier 3 as of 12.01am on Wednesday 16 December.
If no areas in the north and Midlands get knocked back down to Tier 2 later this week, there will be 34.2million people in Tier 3 in total - well over half of England.
The new arrangements took effect on December 2 after England’s blanket lockdown ended. Restrictions have been tightened after Government scientific advisers warned that previous measures had not been effective enough.

The tiered restriction system was rolled out across England at the conclusion of the coronavirus national lockdown on December 3. In total 42 percent of the English population was placed in Tier 3 areas, however, the capital was placed into Tier 2. But will theatres be able to open in Tier 3 areas?

The tier system in England was rolled out after the second national lockdown ended on December 2. The Government has now announced new changes following of its first review on Wednesday - a day which also saw London moved into Tier 3 after a sharp spike in cases in the capital. The latest update has seen even more areas moving into the highest coronavirus restriction tier. Express.co.uk has created a map to show which areas of the UK will be in Tier 3 from this weekend.
