German composite specialist INVENT collaborates in SUSTAINair for increased aircraft circularity

Photo Credit: Aerocircular Horizon 2020 project SUSTAINair, a collaboration of 11 European research organizations and industrial partners, was recently launched in January 2021 to research and develop solutions to achieve a circular aviation economy. This includes increasing resource efficiency and aircraft performance while cutting down on waste and material costs throughout the aircraft life cycle. Consortium partners note that despite the aerospace sector’s plunge into uncertainty, boosting the post-pandemic aviation industry’s green transition remains a strategic objective of governments providing a path to recovery. More specifically, the EU-funded research aims to make the entire aviation supply chain ecosystem greener in line with the Circular Economy Action Plan, setting new standards for aerospace manufacturing and enabling an increase in cross-sector synergies. The SUSTAINair project is expected to provide the aviation sector with a runway to a more cost-effective,

Silence is Certifiably Golden: Embraer E-Jets | Aviation Week Network

Share April 14, 2021 As commercial aviation rebuilds from the impact of the pandemic, there’s a new focus on more environmentally responsible airplanes. Most airlines have purged their oldest aircraft types. OEMs are ramping up designs for electric and hydrogen-fuelled powerplants. Carriers are pledging net zero emissions goals by 2050. The industry is on a path to green. Reductions to NOX and CO2 emissions aren’t the only targets for reductions. Airports and residents living near them are demanding new aircraft to be quieter. Aircraft certified under EASA and the FAA that conform to ICAO’s stringent Chapter 14 limits will be welcome at the world’s most noise-sensitive airports. And they’ll incur lower take-off and landing charges.

Assessing risks more accurately - Chile

Assessing risks more accurately Format International joint project RIESGOS 2.0 to support risk management for natural hazards begins. Practical methods and technologies for multi-risk analysis are being developed for particularly vulnerable regions in Chile, Ecuador and Peru. The course and interactions of various natural hazards - including earthquakes, landslides, volcanoes, floods and tsunamis - can be simulated and displayed via a web platform. Focus: Space, Earth observation, security, digitalisation Increasing numbers of people worldwide are being exposed to natural hazards, particularly in densely populated cities and conurbations. In these situations, effective risk management can save lives. Hazards are rarely isolated; if an earthquake triggers a tsunami, this in turn can generate further environmental disasters and disruptions. Torrential rain can cause landslides and lead to rivers bursting their banks, resulting in flooding. These chain reactions can comp
