Voters in Coryell County are deciding on whether to approve a $30.9 million bond for the construction of a new jail.
Sheriff Scott Williams said the new facility is needed because of the current jailâs lack of capacity to house all the countyâs inmates.
The current jail has a capacity of 92 beds, and as of Tuesday morning, there were 93 inmates being held in the jail. Another 89 Coryell County inmates are being held in nearby counties at the expense of Coryell County, according to the sheriffâs office, which runs the jail.
The six counties that Coryell County partners with to house inmates are Mills, Bosque, McLennan, Limestone, Milam and Burnet, Williams said.
MARSHALL, Texas - Both Harrison and Marion counties have been removed from the Texas Minimum Jail Standards non-compliance list after being re-inspected.
Both jails were initially cited for minor issues, mainly tied to paperwork. The counties were among 14 other counties on the list. Harrison County was cited for a total of four issues; Marion was docked for three.
Harrison County Sheriff Brandon âBJâ Fletcher reported this week that he just received the certificate, reflecting that the jail is now in compliance.
âAs you know we went through a jail inspection a while back and had a couple of rocks in the road that we had to fix,â he reported to the commissioners court. âI received our certificate (for) our passing jail inspection.
