Ahead of school board meeting, student survey reveals discontent with schedule decision

Some students don’t feel they had their say when the school board opted for a 4-day in-person schedule last month. The board voted to eliminate the A/B hybrid schedule after spring break, with trustees stating that they thought moving to the 4-day week would improve students’ education for the final quarter of the school year. The majority of students at Jackson Hole High School disagrees, at least those who responded to a recent survey. “I feel like the entire purpose of the school board is to make decisions that will benefit the student and teacher population,” Jackson Hole High School junior Beckett Lucas-Griffin said. “And this decision goes against the best interest of the student-teacher population.”

As state mask mandate expires, local officials seek their own order

Wyoming’s mask mandate and many other coronavirus restrictions will be eliminated next week, but Teton County health officials will try to put a local mask order back in effect. Gov. Mark Gordon’s office announced Monday that as of March 16, the mask mandate would no longer be in effect. Bars, restaurants, theaters and gyms will be allowed to return to normal operations. That variant contains multiple mutations, including several within the spike protein on the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and has garnered attention due to increased spread of COVID-19 in areas where it has been detected, the release said. In addition, Teton County has identified 8 cases of the B.1.1.7 variant first identified in the United Kingdom. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention variant tracking site, last updated Sunday, Wyoming has reported 9 cases of the B.1.1.7 variant statewide. The CDC site did not yet reflect this newest confirmation of the South Af
