Auditions for Matilda Jr. start Saturday
The Historic Holmes Theatre will be hosting auditions for this summer s theater camp production of Matilda Jr. on Saturday, May 22 and Monday, May 24. Saturday s auditions will take place from 9 a.m. to noon, while Monday s session will run from 5 to 7 p.m. Auditions are open to all area youth in grades 5-12. Also this week: The return of Food Truck Fridays to Detroit Lakes City Park, and the Festival of Birds runs this Thursday through Saturday.

The Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce held an economic development summit at the Historic Holmes Theatre on May 7 and followed it up with their annual meeting to connect their members at the Holiday Inn on May 12. Jennifer Byers, vice president of grassroots and chamber relations for the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, presented during the event and focused on the Minnesota workforce of 2030.
Detroit Lakes Chamber of Commerce to host annual meeting, welcome new board members May 12
The Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce is set to host their annual meeting Wednesday, May 12 at the Holiday Inn in Detroit Lakes. The meeting will welcome new board members, including new chair Travis Stone, and highlight the chamber s 2021 message of hiring, and retaining, a workforce. The meeting is open to the public and will begin at 8 a.m.

Festival of Birds makes its return to Detroit Lakes, May 20-22
The Detroit Lakes Festival of Birds will make its return to on May 20-22, after a one-year absence. Online registration closes Friday, May 14, with birders from seven different states already signed up.

The birders are coming! After the 2020 event was cancelled due to state and federally-mandated COVID-19 safety restrictions, the Festival of Birds returns to Detroit Lakes on May 20-22.
