The land border closure between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico has been extended another month until at least March 21, marking over a year since they were open, according to the Department of Homeland Security. To protect our citizens and prevent the further spread of COVID-19, the United States, Canada, and Mexico are extending the restrictions on non-essential travel at our land borders through March 21, the DHS tweeted Friday. We are also working to ensure essential trade and travel remain open.
The ban against non-essential travel across land borders has been in place since March 18, 2020, and has been extended each month since.

Windsor s 2021 budget has passed with a zero per cent tax increase.
But questions about how nearly $37.7 million in one-time COVID-19 costs will be covered loomed in the background as councillors voiced their support and praised administrators for their work to hold the line. The reality here is we re in a potentially $38 million hole and there s a lot of question marks, said Ward 2 Coun. Fabio Costante.
Councillors voted to support the budget following a marathon meeting that stretched on for nearly 11 hours.
It includes permanent funding for a second street outreach worker, but a motion to add a third person to help the city s most vulnerable find housing failed.
On Monday, council will debate a budget that does not cover off what administration estimates will be $37.7-million in one-time COVID-19 costs- the result of both additional expenses and lost revenue.
This is what makes up the largest chunk of COVID-19 costs, according to the City of Windsor. The corporate losses include revenue from the Windsor Airport, Detroit Windsor Tunnel and Caesars Windsor.(CBC Windsor)
Getting this budget in without a residential tax freeze was already difficult after years of continued focus on a leaner organization, according to administration.
Homelessness and affordable housing
Windsor-Essex continues to experience a homelessness crisis that has been highlighted during the pandemic and a 5,500 person wait list for affordable housing.
