General Motors President Mark Reuss yesterday announced Chevrolet will introduce a Silverado electric pickup truck that will be built at the company’s Factory Zero assembly plant in Detroit and Hamtramck, Michigan. He also confirmed that the GMC Hummer EV SUV will be built at the factory as well.
GM hopes to deliver more than 1 million electric vehicles globally by 2025 and earn EV market leadership in North America. With the company’s Ultium Platform, virtual development tools and technology, GM has reduced vehicle development times by nearly 50 percent to just 26 months.

General Motors has officially announced that Chevrolet will introduce an all-electric Silverado pick-up truck, which will be built at the Factory Zero plant, alongside the GMC Hummer EV.
According to the company, the zero-emission Silverado is designed from the ground up to be an EV and will be underpinned by GM’s Ultium platform and batteries that provide an estimated range of more than 644 km (400 miles) on a full charge.
That figure is around 161 km (100 miles) more than the Silverado EV’s direct competitor, the upcoming all-electric Ford F-150, and exceeds other EV pick-up trucks like the Rivian R1T and Bollinger B2.

When the Hummer EV SUT (sport utility truck) and its newly-unveiled SUV variant hit dealer show floors in the fall of 2021 and 2023, respectively, they’ll be among the first models in GM’s new electrified lineup to be built atop the company’s Ultium battery system.

General Motors is no stranger to the electric vehicle market. GM began its electrified venture in 1996 with the EV1, one of the very first viable battery-powered sedan models produced by a major automaker which continued its run until being discontinued in 2003.
