An international partnership including Orange-based Avangrid, the parent company of United Illuminating, has received final approval from the federal government to start work on an offshore wind farm expected to one day power 400,000 homes.
In a statement released Tuesday, the energy conglomerate announced that the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Management had officially signed off on Vineyard Wind, a proposed 800-megawatt turbine farm expected to be built about 15 miles off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.
