With the coronavirus pandemic still roiling Austin, the city-sponsored, family-friendly New Year s Eve party that normally takes place at Vic Matthias Auditorium Shores will be a virtual event this year.
The concert to close out 2020 will feature recorded performances from eight Austin artists at favorite local music venues. The featured artists, who represent a diverse spectrum of Austin sounds, are Shakey Graves, Gina Chavez, Parker McCollum, Swimming with Bears, Como Las Movies, Betty Soo, Rob Baird and Jake Lloyd.
The featured venues include the Saxon Pub, the Continental Club, Cheer Up Charlies, Antone’s Night Club, and Mohawk.
Set times are not yet available, but you ll be able to tune into the broadcast on a number of platforms including the city s Facebook and Instagram pages. Austin360 will also be hosting the stream on our site.

For the fifth year in a row, ZZ Top s Billy Gibbons will ring in the New Year with a live jam at Antone s featuring an ensemble of Austin all-stars. As in past years, Gibbons will be joined by Austinites Jimmie Vaughan, Mike Flanigin, Sue Foley, and Chris Layton. But to fit with the times, this year s event will be virtual shindig that you can enjoy from the safety and comfort of your own home.
“For five years consecutive years we’ve looked forward to putting the Jungle Show together between Christmas and New Year’s Eve,” Gibbons told Rolling Stone. “It’s been a great way for all of us to cap the old year and bring in the new in rockin’ style. Despite the reality of 2020, we were determined to keep our streak going so we’ve decided to go viral the good kind of viral and offer the Jungle Show to the world beyond Austin.”

With the live music industry reeling and tours and large events indefinitely on hold, beloved Austin-based indie music promotion company Margin Walker Presents has decided to shutter. For most of us in the biz, March marked the beginning of the close of live entertainment, which continues now and will continue for a long time to come. The uncertainty and lack of resources have hammered down on those working in this world from venues to artists to festivals promoters and beyond, a notice posted to the company s Instagram account on Monday said.
The post said that despite strategic changes in the business, painful staff cuts and taking loans and grants, the company was not immune to the pandemic-related downturn.

The club is currently operating at 20% capacity and tickets to the show, which are sold by tables, run $150-$250 per person.
At 10:30 Monday, just an hour after the show was announced, it was almost entirely sold out.
There s a strict no cell phone policy for the show. Fans are advised to leave their phones at home and anyone who enters the club with a cell will be required to put it in a lockbox for the duration of the show. Worth noting, that this is an unusual policy for a Gary Clark Jr. show, but it is standard operating procedure for Dave Chappelle, who is in the middle of a 10-show run at Stubb s BBQ. Tonight is an off night for Chappelle at Stubb s.
