Council looks to Cuba for help with Covid crisis Posted: 10:00 am February 6, 2021 SHARE Derry City and Strabane  Distruct councillors have unanimously agreed to contact the Cuban government and seek help from the Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade to assist with the crisis created by Covid-19. The Henry Reeve Brigade, is a Cuban group of medical professionals established in 2005 with the mission of international medical solidarity, deployed worldwide in major health crises The proposal was made by independent councillor Gary Donnelly and seconded by his party colleague Cllr Paul Gallagher. They did recover as the lockdowns ended but the Bank of England (BOE) have forecast a UK GDP growth of -11% in 2020 and a +7% in 2021. A decline like the Covid dip hasn t been seen since World War Two. The good news, however, is the pace of recovery and most economists predict it will be rapid.

  To mark the Fifteen-Hundredth anniversary of Colmcille, Donegal County Council along with Derry City & Strabane District Council are coordinating a programme for the year which includes a community grants scheme. As part of the Colmcille 1500 Commemorations grants of €2,000 or £1,800 are available for projects that primarily take place within the Donegal County Council or Derry City & Strabane District Council areas and the scheme is open to community organisations or groups/individuals working in partnership with communities. The 1500th anniversary recognises the importance and legacy of the 6th-century saint, not only for Donegal and Derry but for the island of Ireland, Scotland and across the world. The year-long celebrations will last from the 7th December 2020 to 7th December 2021.
