Political engagement by young Americans has surged to a historically high level, and that’s not good news for the Republican Party, according to the findings of the annual Harvard Youth Poll.

Concrete dumped in a layby has left councillors dismayed. It was noticed on Wednesday morning that concrete and litter had been left on an A5093 layby in The Green, Millom. After a team of volunteers consisting of councillors at Millom Without Parish Council and residents had recently cleaned up litter hotspots around Millom, including the A5093, David Savage, chair of the council, said the latest discovery was disheartening . He said: “It is the same layby which was targeted by a big team effort from the parish councillors. “They targeted the area and cleaned it all up. It has been used by people to dump their rubbish and has become an area we wanted to have tidied up, but within a matter of couple of weeks we find ourselves back to square one again.
