Singapore and Taiwan, success stories in containing COVID-19, are both rapidly imposing aggressive restrictions at home and tightening travel between each other.
In Taiwan, authorities encouraged people to stay at home this weekend after a record 180 new local cases were reported Saturday. Indoor family and social gatherings in Taipei will be limited to five people, while outdoor ones will be restricted to 10.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 16) – Around 5,000 Filipino workers bound for Taiwan are stranded after the Taiwan Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) ordered to defer the entry of migrant workers due to rising COVID-19 cases in the self-ruled island.
Acting Philippine representative to Taiwan Gilbert Lauengco told CNN Philippines on Sunday that the order is in effect from May 15-21.
The order was made amid the spike of COVID-19 cases in Taiwan, which has been praised for its pandemic response due to low infections. Taiwan recorded 386 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend, its worst outbreak in months.
Lauengco said the deferment order seeks to prioritize incoming Taiwanese nationals who are required to spend 21 days in a quarantine facility upon arrival in the country. He added that due to the sudden increase in COVID-19 infections in Taiwan, no quarantine facilities are available for incoming migrant workers.
