A PATIENT who tested positive for coronavirus in a Dorset hospital has died. According to data released by NHS England, the death was recorded by University Hospitals Dorset on Tuesday, December 15. A total of 303 patients with coronavirus have died in the county’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic. Across the county, University Hospitals Dorset has recorded 69 deaths, Poole Hospital has recorded 107 and Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals 68. Elsewhere, Dorset County Hospital and Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust have confirmed 27 and 32 respectively.

Cancer scan backlog raises late detection fears
Millions of people missed out on potentially life-saving scans when non-Covid-19 NHS services ground to a halt during the pandemic, analysis shows.
In England, at least 4.4 million fewer scans were performed between April and September this year compared to the same period in 2019.
One in seven people are now waiting more than three months for a scan as the NHS attempts to clear the backlog.
NHS England says some services are now back to the same levels as last year.
But professional bodies and Cancer Research UK say the period of inactivity has left a backlog that could leave a swathe of people presenting at hospital in a worsened condition.
Meanwhile, Dorset County Hospital and Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust have confirmed 27 and 32 respectively. NHS England said another 369 people who tested for the coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 45,126. Patients were aged between 40 and 100 years old. All except 13, aged 61 to 93 years old, had known underlying health conditions. Date of death ranges from August 4 to December 15, 2020, with the majority occurring on or after December 13.

Dorset Trust recorded its first coronavirus death in four days, while the newly formed University Hospitals Dorset Trust recorded three deaths in the latest 24-hour period. NHS England figures show 32 people had died in hospital at Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust as of 5pm on Monday (December 14). That was an increase of one compared to the 31 that had been recorded at the same point on Sunday, and the first death in four days.
