RESIDENTS have been warned to keep away from a seal pup at West Bay - after pictures show people crowding around it. Photos have emerged of a young seal paying a visit to the beach - with residents gathering round to snap a picture. Rachel Jenner, who captured images from a safe distance, observed many people crowding around the seal and even children touching it, despite the seal looking like it might bite. She said: Unfortunately the poor seal was crowded - hardly anyone was respecting his space. Many people were touching it. The seal almost bit a child twice but people people still thought it was acceptable to touch.
Waste found left at Upton Heath. Picture: Martin Adams “Last year we had the massive heath fire at Wareham Forest,” he said. “With the weather at the moment, the heath is bone dry. Just one barbecue left there could set the heath on fire and do incredible damage to an important habitat used by nesting birds, like Dartford warbler, stonechat, linnet and nightjar.” He added that lowland heaths, like Upton Heath, are also the one habitat where the six native species of British reptile can be found. Upton Heath is managed by Dorset Wildlife Trust, which said it was “extremely upset” to see the litter and furniture discarded.

A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy from Creekmoor collected 17 bags of rubbish, including 40 face masks, during a 12-hour sponsored litter pick of his local area. Marley Keen walked over 33,000 steps on Saturday April 3 around his hometown and Upton, where he goes to school, collecting rubbish with his mother Sonja. She said: “Marley really enjoyed the litter picking challenge. Luckily, he s young and innocent so doesn t get frustrated like I do sometimes. Some of the rubbish we found in car parks especially had quite obviously been thrown out of a car window on purpose which really upsets me. Especially when there is usually a bin very close by.
