Kohat District wins taekwondo contest for Afghan refugees in Pakistan Tuesday, 5 January 2021
Afghan refugees in Pakistan have taken part in a taekwondo competition organised by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Commissionerate Afghan Refugees, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Football matches were also played at the three-day gala at Islamia College University Peshawar.
The team from Kohat District won the Taekwondo Championship.
UNHCR official Fuji Kawata, the Commissioner Afghan Refugees, KP, Muhammad Abbas Khan, and Islamia College dean Zareen Bacha were among those to attend. We know that it has been a difficult year for everyone, and we are pleased to see the great enthusiasm and sportsmanship of the participants, Kawata said.

As part of the initiatives to advance the global values of peace and development through sport, World Taekwondo (WT), the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation (THF) and the International Bowling Federation (IBF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today. WT President and THF Chairman, Dr. Chungwon Choue, and IBF President, H.R.H. Sheikh Talal Mohammad Al-Sabah, committed to the partnership in a virtual MoU signing ceremony.
Under the terms of the MoU, the three organizations committed to developing close cooperation in the following areas:
Promoting sport as a powerful vehicle towards peace, social development and integration of vulnerable populations; Uniting forces in offering sport for development and peace activities, in particular in Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation’s existing Taekwondo Humanitarian Centre in Azraq Refugee Cam

The annual GCS International Convention, which took place at the World Taekwondo headquarters, drew about 60 representatives from about 40 GCS national chapters around the world via Zoom platform, past December 4, 2020.
The annual GCS International Convention, which took place at the World Taekwondo headquarters in downtown Seoul, drew about 60 representatives from about 40 GCS national chapters around the world via a Zoom system.
Among the participating GCS member countries were Argentina, Aruba, Australia, Belgium, Bhutan, Cambodia, Cameroon, Colombia, Costa Rica, Curacao, Denmark, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, the United States, Uzbekistan and Venezuela.
