Child found in parking lot | News, Sports, Jobs

WEATHERSFIELD A child was found wandering the parking lot of a store on Tuesday. A witness called police about 8:30 a.m. after he pulled into the parking lot of Dollar General, 3840 state Route 46, and saw the child walking in nothing but a diaper and carrying a blanket, according to a police report. The caller brought the child inside until police arrived. When police asked the child questions about where he lived or any other information, he could only provide his name. Lane Ambulance was called to the store to check on the child, and he was eventually taken to Akron Children’s Hospital in Boardman. Trumbull County Children Services also was called, the report states.

news@tribtoday.com WARREN A Warren mother was charged with child endangering after police officers responded to a Milton Street SE address to find a young girl home alone Monday morning. China Walker, 25, of Milton Street SE, was arraigned before Municipal Judge Terry Ivanchak Tuesday morning. Walker remains free on a personal bond and will appear for preliminary hearing before Judge Thomas Gysegem at 1:30 p.m. May 25. She also is not to have unsupervised contact with her daughter unless approved by Trumbull County Children Services. Walker was arrested after police officers responded to a burglar alarm about 8:15 a.m. in the 2600 block of Milton Street SE and a 4-year-old girl did not open the front door, saying she was home alone. The girl later opened a side door for officers, and she told them both her mother and grandmother were at work.

WARREN Trumbull County officials investigated 1,291 referrals of child maltreatment in 2020, and each was represented with a pinwheel planted in the yard in front of Warren City Hall to increase awareness. Anytime someone witnesses child abuse or neglect, he or she should report it to the agency, Tim Schaffner, executive director of Trumbull County Children Services, stressed during Wednesday’s kickoff of the annual Pinwheels for Prevention event.
