56 returnees from the U K to undergo RT-PCR test today

Eight more have undergone the test and are awaiting results in twin districts Of the 64 travellers who have returned from the U.K. to Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, 56 have been asked to undergo RT-PCR test in the light of reports of new strain of SARS-COV-2 in the U.K., on Wednesday. The remaining eight persons who have undergone the test are awaiting results. According to Ramachandra Bairy and Sudhirchandra Sooda, District Health and Family Welfare Officers from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, respectively, as many as 56 persons have returned to Dakshina Kannada district, while eight persons returned to Udupi district after December 7.

Health dept authorities told to conduct more tests

COVID-19 cases have risen in Kerala: corpn. commissioner Commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation Akshy Sridhar has said that the Health Department should conduct more throat and nasal swab sample tests in the jurisdiction of the corporation to prevent a second wave of COVID-19. Speaking at a meeting with Health Department officials in the corporation’s office on Saturday, he said that COVID-19 cases have risen in neighbouring Kerala. Hence, the department should get those people entering the city from Kasaragod and other border districts tested compulsorily. It will help prevent the spread of COVID-19. COVID-19 is likely to spread in market areas, during jatras and other public festivals and in the Bunder area. Hence, traders in those areas should be tested as a precaution.
