LEWISTON The L&A Veterans Council will honor Gold Star families at the Memorial Day ceremony Saturday at Veterans Memorial Park starting at 10 a.m.
The Gold Star Families monument will be unveiled.
A Gold Star Family is one that has had a family member in the military who died in the line of duty. It is meant to honor the service member’s ultimate sacrifice while acknowledging their family’s loss, grief and continued healing, according to the United Service Organizations.
The monument will honor the memory of the those who died and create a lasting memorial for future families.

Memorial Day ceremony to take place at Pierce House in Lincoln

A Memorial Day celebration and Medal of Liberty ceremony will take place from 9 a.m. to noon May 31 at Pierce House, 17 Weston Road, Lincoln.
Lincoln s Veterans Service Officer Peter Harvell developed a plan to identify soldiers and sailors from Lincoln, Sudbury and a few other communities who had been killed in WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Medals of Liberty will be awarded to their Gold Star Families during the Memorial Day event.
Sixteen soldiers and sailors were identified, and as many immediate remaining family members were invited. Each Gold Star Family will receive Senate citations from Rep. Katherine Clark. Sen. Michael Barrett will offer comments, and Rep. Thomas Stanley will also be in attendance.

Join the city of Palm Coast for a Memorial Day Ceremony, “Remembering America’s Heroes,” on Monday, May 31 from 8 - 9 a.m. at Heroes Memorial Park, 2860 Palm Coast Parkway. Parking is available along Corporate Drive and at the Library.
The annual ceremony is open to all ages and honors the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Heroes Memorial Park is a special place for Palm Coast because it recognizes those in the military and law enforcement who have given their lives in the line of duty. Branches of the military are honored with engraved granite monuments displaying names, along with a Purple Heart Memorial.
