May 12, 2021 After a year of COVID-related interruption, the Blue Star Mothers New York Chapter 4 will resume its annual Gold Star Memorial Remembrance Ceremony on Saturday, May 29, at 10 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park on West Third and Logan streets in Jamestown. Held annually the Saturday before Memorial Day, the Blue Star Mothers will honor in remembrance those Western New York residents who have died in the service of the United States by memorializing them and acknowledging their Gold Star families left behind. Originally established in May 2013, and desiring that these sacrifices never be forgotten, the local Blue Star Mothers Chapter has secured the privilege of commemorating Western New York’s local Gold Star families with a memorial display, serving as a daily visual remembrance. May 17 is when some members are expected to call the Michigan Veteran Homes or MVH, at Chesterfield Township, located at 47901 Sugarbush Road their home. At a total project cost of $76.5 million, construction of the assisted living home began in April 2019 and occupies 30 acres, totaling 152,000 square feet. “The state-of-the-art facility consists of four unique neighborhood buildings and a community center,” a press release indicates. “The neighborhood buildings collectively house  128 private resident rooms with ensuite baths and feature shared living and dining spaces. June 08, 2021 The Fourth Annual Sharon Hardy Memorial Par 3 Tournament is scheduled for June 24 at Hardy’s Custom Golf, 2003 West Pine Street, Mount Airy. Tee time is 9 a.m. for golfers, lunch will be served midday, and sponsorships are available. Sharon Hardy was a teacher, assistant principal, and principal in the Surry County School System for 21 years. She worked at several schools including Pilot Mountain Middle, Dobson Elementary, Central Middle and Cedar Ridge Elementary. As a way to continue her legacy the Hardy family has chosen to donate the facilities for the event to benefit the Surry County Schools Educational Foundation.
