The $900 billion stimulus bill passed by the US Congress this week includes language regarding replacement of the Sagamore and Bourne bridges.
The nearly 5,600-page bill includes the Water Resources Development Act of 2020, a piece of legislation relative to water infrastructure around the country. Replacement of the Capeâs aging access bridges was one of 65 projects in the WRDA that the US Army could expedite to pre-construction planning, engineering and design.
The $900 billion COVID-19 relief package was approved on Monday, December 21, as part of a $1.4 trillion spending bill to fund the federal government through September 30, 2021, the end of the current fiscal year.

The $900 billion in pandemic relief that passed the House and Senate late Monday is aimed squarely at shoring up the U.S. economic recovery into the early spring as battered industries and workers face months of continuing struggle.
The funds were combined with $1.4 trillion to fund regular government operations for the rest of the fiscal year, in massive legislation that runs 5,593 pages. It includes other tax, energy and national-security provisions that lawmakers agreed to pass before the end of the year.
The pandemic relief package includes help for small businesses and the jobless along with direct payments to most Americans. It also provides funding for vaccine distribution, food assistance, tax breaks and money for education and child care.

Tuesday:Â The Senate has passed the $1.4 trillion spending package, which includes provisions for the specific water projects listed in this story. The Water Resources Development Act of 2020 has yet to face a Senate vote.Â
WASHINGTON, D.C. â Congress this week passed a $1.4 trillion spending package to fund the government through next September and $900 billion in COVID-19 relief.
As part of the package, Congress also passed a multi-billion-dollar bill funding Western U.S. water projects called the Water Resources Development Act of 2020, or WRDA.
âHats off to Senate and House leaders, water committees and committee staff to put this bipartisan water package together. Overall â this is a very nice, early Christmas present to Western water users,â Dan Keppen, executive director of Family Farm Alliance, a group that advocates for irrigation and water supplies for Western farmers, said in a statement.
