Bridge Replacement Language Included In COVID-19 Stimulus Bill

The $900 billion stimulus bill passed by the US Congress this week includes language regarding replacement of the Sagamore and Bourne bridges. The nearly 5,600-page bill includes the Water Resources Development Act of 2020, a piece of legislation relative to water infrastructure around the country. Replacement of the Cape’s aging access bridges was one of 65 projects in the WRDA that the US Army could expedite to pre-construction planning, engineering and design. The $900 billion COVID-19 relief package was approved on Monday, December 21, as part of a $1.4 trillion spending bill to fund the federal government through September 30, 2021, the end of the current fiscal year.

Updated 12/22/2020 8:07 AM The $900 billion in pandemic relief that passed the House and Senate late Monday is aimed squarely at shoring up the U.S. economic recovery into the early spring as battered industries and workers face months of continuing struggle. The funds were combined with $1.4 trillion to fund regular government operations for the rest of the fiscal year, in massive legislation that runs 5,593 pages. It includes other tax, energy and national-security provisions that lawmakers agreed to pass before the end of the year.   The pandemic relief package includes help for small businesses and the jobless along with direct payments to most Americans. It also provides funding for vaccine distribution, food assistance, tax breaks and money for education and child care.
