BTS has dominated charts since their debut in 2013. Every hit album they have released in the past few years have garnered them swathes of new fans, and an unbelievable amount of airplay on radios around the world. In 2020 alone, the Korean boyband released two albums, Map of the Soul: 7, and Be.

Elvis Presley crafted quite the repertoire of songs throughout his career. The King of Rock N Roll hit legendary status before the likes of The Beatles arrived in the music industry. John Lennon famously cited Elvis as one of his biggest influences, and the band even met with the King during one of their tours in the ‘60s. Paul McCartney has also spoken out about how Elvis has inspired him over the years, most recently calling him the “second” coolest person he’d ever met - just after his wife.
The OCC have today (January 6) published their rundown of the top 40 best-selling vinyl albums in the UK in 2020, with Fleetwood Mac‘s ‘Rumours’ being named as the biggest-selling vinyl album of last year after it shifted 32,500 copies.

Oasis’ ‘(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?’ and Amy Winehouse‘s ‘Back To Black’ complete the top three. The top-selling vinyl album that was released in 2020 was Kylie Minogue‘s ‘Disco’, which has sold 21,500 copies on vinyl since its release in November.

A famous story about the Beatles tells of the collaboration between Paul McCartney and John Lennon on the song “Getting Better” for their legendary Sgt. Pepper s Lonely Hearts Club Band album. After McCartney wrote the lines “I ve got to admit, it s getting better; a little better all the time,” Lennon wryly added, “It can t get no worse.” This story could serve as an epigraph as the calendar turns from the year 2020, which could hardly have gotten much worse, to 2021, when we hope life will indeed get a little better all the time. Better from COVID-19 because of the vaccines, better from misinformation spread by outgoing president Donald Trump and his allies, and better, we can hope, when it comes to the production and distribution of scientific knowledge.
