Pioneer cabin to be restored this summer at Becker County Fairgrounds
“There are quite a few issues with that cabin,” said Becker County Historical Society Executive Director Becky Mitchell. “If we didn’t do something with it, we’d be looking at having to tear it down in a few years.

The pioneer log cabin at the Becker County Fairgrounds will get some much-needed love this summer: The leaking cedar roof will be reshingled, the gaps between logs will be rechinked, the rickety loft will be stabilized, and the window areas restored, among other improvements.

Poles N Holes postponed; more Polar Fest events set for this week
The Detroit Lakes Breakfast Rotary Club announced Wednesday afternoon that its annual Poles N Holes Ice Fishing Derby, which was scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 6, has been postponed to Feb. 13 due to the subzero temperatures expected to sweep through the region this weekend. More Polar Fest events, including the Noon Rotary s Polar-riffic Spaghetti Feed, Ice Tee Golf and Freeze Your Buns Run, are scheduled throughout the week; the festival concludes Monday, Feb. 15.
