Rain damages 12 houses in Chinnarpathi tribal colony | Coimbatore News

Coimbatore: As many as 12 thatched houses were damaged in rain at Chinnarpathi tribal settlement in Anamalai Tiger Reserve on Friday. No one was injured in the incident. Residents were shifted to a temple hall about a kilometre away from the settlement on Saturday morning. As many as 40 families are residing in the settlement, said V S Paramasivam, district president of Tamil Nadu Tribal People Association. “Almost all of them stay in temporary sheds. As the shelters are in bad shape, when it began to rain last night, most of them spent the night in nearby caves. They returned in the morning to find the damaged shelters,” he said.

Hence, they are denied reservation in educational institutions, government jobs and also welfare measures provided by the government.

GOVARTHAN ‘A resolution should be passed in the village gram sabha’ With works yet to begin for establishing a government primary school at Vilankombai tribal settlement here, Tamil Nadu Tribal People Association has urged the State to issue a government order (GO) for establishing the school until which the forest department building in the hamlet can be used for taking classes. The settlement with 38 families is located inside the buffer zone of Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve and has no school, except for a special training centre run under the National Child Labour Project.

Forest dept lodges police complaint against tribal association president | Coimbatore News

Coimbatore: Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR) officials have filed a police complaint against Tamil Nadu Tribal People’s Association’s district president V S Paramasivam for attempting to bring NGO members to the reserve without prior permission from the forest department. During the pandemic, the Pollachi forest division provided various welfare assistance to the residents of 18 tribal settlements, a press note issued by ATR deputy director S Arockiaraj Xavier on Sunday said. Several NGOs offered their help to the tribes through the forest department. Paramasivam on Saturday brought 18 members of an NGO to Aliyar forest check post and told the officials that he wanted to take the members to the Chinnarpathi tribal settlement to construct toilets.
