New Delhi, Jan 19 : Pace bowler T Natarajan had all odds stacked against him growing up. His family, led by father who toiled for daily wages and mother who ran a roadside shack, had little money and his house had no TV on which he could watch cricket and pick his initial lessons. But there was one thing he had managed to pick in the dusty village fields around Salem in Tamil Nadu while playing tennis ball cricket ability to bowl fast.

NEW DELHI: Rajeev Shukla s candidature for the post of the Indian cricket board s vice-president was on Friday declared valid, along with those of Brijesh Patel and M. Khairul Jamal Majumdar, who would continue as councillors after nominations were also declared valid.
Earlier, Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) president Rohan Jaitley, whose late father Arun Jaitley and Shukla famously got along well despite having different political affiliations, proposed the name of the former Indian Premier League governing council chairman for the post.
Election for only three vacant posts was scheduled to be held during the December 24 AGM of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). However, now that there would be no contest, all have been effectively elected, barring a formal announcement from Achal Kumar Joti, Electoral Officer of the BCCI. Although candidates could withdraw their nominations on Saturday, that wouldn t be required now.

Upset BCCI affiliates question choice of venues for England tour
Not all the State associations seem to be happy with the venues chosen for England’s upcoming tour of India, and some aggrieved cricket administrators in the state associations are linking it to this month’s elections of the Indian cricket board.

Even Indian cricket board president Sourav Ganguly s home State, Bengal, has questioned him on why it wasn t allotted any of the 12 matches that will be played in February-March.
