The Madras High Court on Monday ordered notices to a host of Central and State government officials on a contempt of court petition filed by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) for alleged irregularities in the constitution of a committee to decide the quantum of reservation to be given to Other Backward Class (OBC) candidates while filling medical and dental seats contributed to the all-India quota by the State government-run colleges.

Hospital has catered for more than 32,500 patients with COVID-19 The Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory of the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital performed 1,602 angiography and angioplasty procedures during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The lab functioned uninterrupted during the pandemic, and all patients were screened for COVID-19 before the procedure. A total of 5,043 cardiac intervention procedures have so far been performed at the lab, which was started in 2018. The 5,000th procedure was performed on February 16, hospital dean P. Balaji said in a press release.

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami laid the foundation for construction of new amenities at the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital through video conferencing on Thursday.
Mr. Palaniswami laid the foundation for new cancer treatment facilities, and a new building for linear accelerator device near the Radiology Department. Collector S.A. Raman, Dean R. Balajinathan, Medical Superintendent P.V. Dhanapal and Resident Medical Officer S.R. Rani among others took part in the event.

Tamil Nadu has so far spent approximately ₹480 crore on procuring RT-PCR testing kits for COVID-19. It has placed direct orders for 1,09,03,428 testing kits through the Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation (TNMSC).
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the State has been relying only on RT-PCR tests for the diagnosis of COVID-19.
Gold standard
Officials have maintained that RT-PCR tests are the gold standard for COVID-19 testing and as a policy, had decided against the use of rapid antigen diagnostic tests. As a result, Tamil Nadu has done 100% testing by RT-PCR kits.
