TALLAHASSEE â The 60-day legislative session is nearly over. Lawmakers could agree Friday on the one thing that they are required to do, pass Floridaâs state budget, and go home.
But no matter what happens next, the 2021 session has already felt more consequential than recent sessions. Perhaps not since the 2011 session, when tea party Republicans flexed their muscle after being swept into office for the first time, have so many important â and divisive â bills been passed.

TALLAHASSEE â With several Black lawmakers heralding what they described as a starting point to improve community interactions with police, the Florida Senate on Thursday gave final approval to a bill that includes new use-of-force training requirements for officers.
DeSantis signs bill expanding legal protections for farmers
The measure expands the stateâs âRight to Farmâ law, which was initially approved in 1979 and helps shield farmers from what are known as nuisance lawsuits.
