Student Caught Cutting Down Pride Flag at School Causes Viral Controversy

Video of a teenager cutting down a high school s LGBTQ Pride flag has caused both local and national controversy after circulating online.
Footage of the incident on Tuesday shows a student at Ridgeline High School in Millville, Utah taking down the flag hanging from a balcony. In the video, which made its way to Reddit, students on the floor below can be heard loudly cheering as the flag hits the ground.
According to The Herald Journal, Ridgeline High School was celebrating its Diversity Week when the incident occurred. One anonymous student shared with the outlet that they felt attacked by the incident.
But not all members of the rank and file are happy about the move.
On Tuesday night, the Logan School District Board of Education followed its Cache County counterpart in voting for district office bonuses that Superintendent Frank Schofield portrayed as fair and needed since âevery employee in the district has had to assume new and additional responsibilitiesâ during the pandemic, not just those under school roofs.

Loganâs bonuses will mirror whatâs being done in the state stipend program approved by Gov. Spencer Cox, with $1,500 going to licensed staff and $1,000 to classified staff, prorated based on hours worked. In total, 40 Logan employees will be compensated at a cost of $70,000, taken from the districtâs $11 million cash reserve.

Teachers and staff at Logan and Cache Countyâs school districts were able to sign up to receive their first doses of COVID-19 vaccinations this week.
âItâs a huge relief,â said Jessica Littlefield, a fourth-grade teacher at Cedar Ridge Elementary. âThis was pretty exciting.â

Sky View High Schoolâs Kaye Dawn Falslev said this is hands-down the hardest year sheâs ever experienced in her 34-year career.
âFrom the time we went back to school until about Christmas break, it was brutal,â she said. âIt was absolutely brutal. And itâs only slightly better as you move through it as you get a few more things, you know, online and that sort of thing.â
