The rise in the number of overseas cases comes amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis erupting in India.
India recorded 360,960 new cases and another 3293 deaths in the past 24 hours. But the real number, experts fear, could be up to 30 times higher â meaning more than half a billion cases.
The number of cases reported in overseas returned travellers increased this week by 15 per cent in comparison to last week, according to the latest surveillance report from NSW Health.
Arrivals from India accounted for nearly a quarter of all positive cases from overseas (21 per cent) with 23 cases arriving in the last week.
The state s Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant yesterday said a hike in the number of overseas-acquired virus cases was to be expected however the state s hotel quarantine system was robust and could cope with the rise.
